Supporting Our Military and Honoring Our Veterans

As a senior member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee and a strong advocate for our men and women in uniform, Mike is continually working to ensure that our military is prepared to meet the challenges and demands of the 21st century. In addition, he is 1000% committed to honoring and providing the veterans of our nation with the benefits, services, and recognition they so deserve.

With the threat of terrorism a constant reality, it is increasingly important that we provide our military with the resources and training to protect our nation during periods of conflict. In order to preserve our national security, we must strengthen our commitment to the armed forces by ensuring that their needs and sacrifices are recognized today. The United States has the greatest military in the history of the world, and our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are highly capable and dedicated individuals.

Throughout their time in uniform, the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces have never given up when defending American freedoms and ideals. For this reason, now, more than ever, our veterans have earned the right to be honored with the same commitment from their country.

As the Ranking Member on the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, Mike oversees our Navy and Marine Corps programs. His leadership has helped shape our Navy battle force fleet, enhance the naval air component, and ensure that our Marine Corps is well equipped and prepared for combat operations. National security has always been a cornerstone of Mike’s priorities, and his continued commitment to securing our interests here and abroad is strong.

Furthermore, Mike is a true advocate for North Carolina’s military bases and has worked to secure billions of dollars in military construction improvements for our key installations. These dollars help provide local jobs, make key investments for our military and their families, and support the local economy.

Finally, Mike has been a champion of working and fighting for the veterans of Eastern North Carolina. From quadrupling of health clinics in the district to advocating for improving mental health care to helping pass the largest increase in veterans’ benefits ever to fighting against TRICARE increases, Mike has and will always be there to help our Eastern North Carolina veterans!
